DECADE DLT Field Labs

DECaDE, the UKRI Next Stage Centre for Decentralised Digital Economy, explores how cutting-edge technologies like Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can revolutionise the digital economy. Through its innovative DLT Field Labs, DECaDE fosters open innovation, enabling rapid translation of research into real-world applications and advancing solutions at higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs).

DECaDE’s DLT Field Labs bring together demand-side stakeholders with experts from academia, industry, and regulatory bodies to tackle shared challenges. By trialing solutions in near-real-world environments, the labs address coordination problems that require decentralised digital infrastructure, advancing both practical applications and academic knowledge.

In its latest initiative, DECaDE partnered with the University of Surrey, University of Edinburgh, and Digital Catapult to explore “ORA” (Ownership, Rights, and Attribution), a framework addressing licensing, ownership, and attribution in digital content. Using the ORAgen demonstrator, the lab examined its potential across industries, especially in reuse practices, remix cultures, and the rise of Generative AI, identifying new opportunities and challenges for stakeholders.
