Equality, diversity and inclusion

We believe equality, diversity and inclusion are key to creating an enjoyable and positive company culture.

Our inclusive workplace

We recognise and value the advantage of people coming from diverse backgrounds, where an inclusive and open culture can lead to more innovation and greater agility, accelerating technology and growing the UK economy in an equitable way. This is why it’s our ambition to build an organisation that is fully representative and reflective of UK society.

We believe Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) are key to creating an enjoyable and positive company culture, where people feel they belong and do their best work, which ultimately drives the success of our business and of others we work with.

As part of the Catapult Network, we have confirmed our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and will act on the following:

  • We will ensure that EDI is embedded in our culture and throughout our policies and procedures.
  • We aim to recruit the most talented individuals to our workplace and empower them to realise their goals.
  • We will celebrate the individual as part of a strong and diverse team.
  • We will promote an expectation for our collaborators to uphold EDI practices.
  • We will share best practices within the Catapult Network and continually strive to improve.

Our culture

We have a vibrant and engaging culture where all voices are heard. We achieve this through committing to routine company-wide updates and our established internal networks that have formed over the years. From our Employee Voice Network to our Parents and Women in Tech networks, we have a variety of different employee led affinity groups who champion initiatives within the organisation and provide opportunities for feedback to be shared and heard.

We follow a calendar of activities to promote wellbeing and EDI initiatives, which is refreshed annually and responsive to the needs of the people who work with us. These activities include celebrations around International Women’s Day, Pride, National Inclusion Week and Black History Month. We use moments in the year to educate everyone at Digital Catapult on different aspects of EDI and to raise awareness and take different approaches to training – from webinars, panel discussions and online learning.

We also enjoy socialising and having fun together through a variety of company-wide events held throughout the year including our football team, running groups, our film club and volunteering activities.

Inclusion in career development

We have developed an internal Manager Academy programme that all of our people managers are expected to follow to ensure that they are becoming true role models within our organisation. We also ensure our training programmes support diverse learning experiences that suit different learning preferences.

We work to remove any form of bias in our career development processes ensuring that everyone has access to different learning and development opportunities using different formats based on preferences and we ensure that promotion opportunities are managed through applying a consistent and equal framework.

Apprentices also make up 4% of our team and we are striving to increase this to 5% over the course of 2023.

Disability confident

We are a Disability Confident Committed Level 1 employer.

We strive to continue to lead the way in driving cultural change towards disability inclusion and are dedicated to ensuring our processes are inclusive and accessible. We are committed to making a difference to disabled people and supporting existing employees with disabilities and long term health conditions, ensuring that our vacancies are widely promoted, offering interviews to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria and that reasonable adjustments are anticipated and provided as required.

Disability Confident is creating a movement of change, encouraging employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop people with disabilities.
