Join us on 28 November 2018 as we hear from industry leaders who will share their thoughts about their journey from The Serial Digital Interface (SDI) to IP.

The Serial Digital Interface (SDI) was standardised in 1989 and has become the mainstay of broadcasters’ production centres across the globe. Its broadcast-specific, open interface has facilitated interoperability and deterministic networks and its isolation from IP has given it a robust security regime.

This event is designed for those involved or interested in emerging technology and discussing the drivers that have led to a paradigm-shift to IP technology in the production centres of leading broadcasters. Come along to discuss the future of the technology and the potential of its transformation.

Why attend?

Speakers from operators and vendors will offer insight through a series of presentations and a panel session, allowing plenty of time for Q&A. Some of the leading players in this initiative, including Bloomberg, dB Broadcast, the BBC and Canal+, will share their thoughts and first-hand experiences about the journey from SDI to IP.

  • In terms of cost, how does it compare with traditional broadcast technologies? Is it scalable – both up (massive broadcast centres) and down (regional broadcast centres)?

  • Are the standards – SMPTE 2022-x, 2110 – up to the challenge?
  • And what about the tricky issue of timing when the essence is broken into component parts? On campus and across campus too.
