Through it’s work with Digital Catapult and the UK Digital Twin Centre, ANGOKA is helping to strengthen the safety and resilience of next-generation transport and industrial manufacturing systems through cybersecurity-enabled Digital Twin technology. Through its intelligent transport system and industrial monitoring demonstrators, the company is exploring how digital shadows, cyber analytics, and connected infrastructure can work together to improve trust, operational resilience, and decision-making in increasingly autonomous environments.
Developed within the UK Digital Twin Centre’s Living Lab environment, the demonstrator recreates a connected intelligent transport system based on ANGOKA’s work supporting Northern Ireland’s first autonomous shuttle deployment. By combining real-time infrastructure monitoring, cyber posture analysis, and Digital Twin technologies, the demonstrator highlights how organisations can better understand and secure the operation of complex cyber-physical systems.
Rather than positioning cybersecurity as a separate layer added after deployment, ANGOKA’s approach demonstrates how security and Digital Twin technologies can evolve together to support safer, more resilient connected operations.
The challenge: Building trust in connected autonomous systems
As transport and industrial systems become increasingly autonomous, interconnected, and data-driven, the integrity and trustworthiness of operational data becomes critical. Autonomous vehicles, roadside infrastructure, industrial control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), cloud platforms, and fleet or facility management systems must continuously exchange information in real time, often across multiple networks and environments.
However, this increasing connectivity also creates new vulnerabilities. Cyber-physical systems are becoming a growing target for sophisticated cyber threats, including ransomware attacks, industrial espionage, supply chain disruption, and attempts to compromise connected infrastructure.
The solution: A cyber-aware Digital Twin demonstrator for intelligent transport
To address these challenges, ANGOKA developed two complementary Digital Twin demonstrators that showcase how cyber-aware technologies can strengthen trust, resilience, and operational visibility across both intelligent transport and industrial environments.
The intelligent transport demonstrator is centred around ComSec Rover, which secures communications between autonomous vehicles, roadside infrastructure, cloud platforms, and fleet management systems within a connected transport ecosystem, and is part of ANGOKA’s Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) Secure and Resilient Mesh Communication solutions. Alongside this, an industrial demonstrator showcases ComSec COSMIC™, ANGOKA’s cyber resilience platform for monitoring and validating communications across industrial control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and operational technology (OT) environments, as part of ANGOKA’s Secure and Resilient Industrial Mesh Communication solutions.
Together, the demonstrators recreate connected cyber-physical environments that combine real-time operational data with cybersecurity analytics within a unified Digital Twin framework. By continuously validating the integrity and identity of connected devices and communications, the platforms help operators detect anomalous activity, identify compromised messages, and maintain visibility of the cybersecurity posture of both transport and industrial systems.
The impact: Improving resilience and operational confidence
By continuously monitoring communications and validating device identities, ANGOKA’s ComSec COSMIC™ technology helps improve the cyber resilience of connected industrial systems and networks. Within industrial and operational environments, this improved resilience could help organisations reduce business interruption caused by cyber incidents by up to 50%, while increasing system uptime to as much as 99.5%.
The demonstrator also illustrates how cross-referenced operational data can support more informed decision-making by validating information from vehicles, roadside systems, and cloud infrastructure simultaneously.
Looking ahead: Towards predictive cyber-physical Digital Twins
ANGOKA sees significant opportunities to further evolve the demonstrator by more deeply integrating cyber analytics, physical infrastructure monitoring, and Digital Twin intelligence into a single operational platform.
The project has also helped create new commercial and collaborative opportunities for ANGOKA, including partnerships with BT, Belfast Harbour, the Port of Tyne, the City of Sunderland, and Nissan manufacturing facilities.
