As lead consortium partner of UKTIN, Digital Catapult the UK authority on advanced digital technology brought its technical and policy expertise to, head up the landscape mapping and future capability shaping activities that gave the sector its strategic direction for the first time. Digital Catapult led the creation of the UK’s first comprehensive, cross-ecosystem consultation structure for future telecommunications capability, convening nine Future Capability Expert Working Groups that mobilised more than 180 senior experts across AI, wireless, security, photonics, semiconductors, non-terrestrial networks and standards. Working alongside the University of Bristol, Satellite Applications Catapult and the Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, Digital Catapult produced nine evidence-based Future Capability Papers and nine R&D&I roadmaps that now provide government, industry and academia with a clear, nationally agreed picture of where to focus investment through to 2035 and beyond.
Alongside this, Digital Catapult led the Market Insights initiative, combining empirical data with expert input to deliver trusted, actionable intelligence on industry trends, funding flows and emerging technologies and played a central role in supporting commercialisation pathways through the Transforming Telecoms Programme, helping early-stage ventures translate world-class research into credible commercial narratives. In doing so, Digital Catapult helped accelerate the practical application of deep tech innovation across the UK’s connectivity ecosystem, equipping the sector to be future-ready.
The UKTIN programme has reshaped the UK’s telecommunications landscape, connecting industry, academia, and government to accelerate innovation, strengthen supply chains, and position the UK to lead the next era of connectivity.
