Session – Future Visions: Trends in Robotics, AI, Automation and Supply Chains

Session – Integrated Photonics: The Future of Light Based Technologies

This session will be part of the DeepTech Summit, the first of its kind, bringing together leading speakers from across the industry to discuss recent developments in AI, quantum, biotech and other transformative tech fields. With talks from visionary leaders, scientists and entrepreneurs, the summit offers insight into transformative technologies in labs across the world.

Dr Cillian McPolin, Photonics Engineer at Digital Catapult, will participate in a panel discussion titled Integrated Photonics: The Future of Light Based Technologies. Photonics – the science and technology of light – is foundational to a myriad of products and services that are crucial to modern society, from smartphones and medical instruments to imaging systems and the internet. This discussion will explore how greater on-chip integration of photonics components can unlock a whole host of new opportunities within communication, computing and sensing, offering greater performance and efficiencies. In addition to this, the speakers will also explore fascinating use cases and discuss how collaboration can accelerate the opportunities integrated photonics technologies offer.

Session – Digital Catapult Executive Suite

Digital Catapult will host an executive suite situated within The O2 Arena and provide a unique opportunity for a hand-selected group of senior leaders to take advantage of themed flash talks from our top experts on digital twins, quantum computing, supply chains and generative AI, as well as uninterrupted views of the Global Leadership Summit and private networking.

The suite will be hosted by Tim Lawrence, Director of Digital Supply Chain Innovation Hub and Loic Hares, Senior Industry Practice Lead for Energy at Digital Catapult.

Our speakers

Dr Cillian McPolin

Photonics Technologist

Dr. Cillian McPolin is a photonics technologist at Digital Catapult, driving forward the adoption of photonics and nanotechnology. Cillian received his MSci and PhD degrees in physics from Queen’s University Belfast and King’s College London, respectively, before undertaking research at King’s and Imperial College London, and subsequently joining Digital Catapult. His publications cover research topics such as nanophotonic circuitry, nanoscale light sources, infrared photodetectors and ultrafast optical signal modulation.

Geraldina Iraheta

Chief Commercial Officer

Digital leader, technologist and strategic thinker, Geraldina Iraheta is the Chief Commercial Officer at Digital Catapult. Passionate about turning innovative ideas into concrete business benefit, Geraldina works with leading corporations to drive a culture of innovation and deliver growth through the adoption of leading-edge digital technology. Bringing a wealth of experience from her global career, including working with startups in Silicon Valley, where she has performed key roles at Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile, and Critical Path Inc. Her experience spans a broad range of sectors including mobile telcoms, fintech, manufacturing, creative, and digital health. She is also a strong advocate of women in digital industry leadership. Her broad business experience also includes extensive work with startups, academia and investors, both in the UK and internationally.

Nick Wright

Director of Market Development

As Digital Catapult’s Director, Market Development, Nick Wright combines his domain expertise and passion for engineering and manufacturing with advanced digital technology to develop partnerships and commercial relationships that help accelerate the UK’s manufacturing sector.

Tim Lawrence

Director, Digital Supply Chain Hub

Tim joined Digital Catapult in September 2021 as Director of Digital Supply Chain and the Made Smarter Innovation hub. Tim has extensive experience in improving global businesses and supply chains working within the Automotive, Consumer Goods, Aerospace, Defence, Construction, Life Science and Industrial Sectors. His experience includes 25 years in supply chain consultancy, leading global companies to deliver transformation in their business and operations focused on strategy, operating model and organisational design, digital supply chain, restructuring and performance improvement.

Daniel Goldsmith

Senior Quantum Computing Technologist

Daniel has a Masters in Quantum Technology at University College, London, and researched Quantum Error Correction Codes. He has experience of working with quantum annealing and photonic computers, as well as the standard quantum circuit model. He has a good understanding of algorithms for the NISQ and the fault tolerant era. He is particularly interested in quantum machine learning. Daniel also has extensive experience of leading teams to design, build, test, cut over, and operate global ERP IT systems. This has given him an excellent understanding of the key elements of a successful IT implementation. He has a deep knowledge of technical and process architecture and has worked in key integration roles on large and complex projects. Daniel also has a good appreciation of finance, gained from qualifying as a Chartered Accountant at Ernst & Young, and then working as a European Financial Controller for a technology firm earlier in his career. He studied Physics at Jesus College, Cambridge.

Katy Ho

Director of Innovation Practice for Future Networks and Future Focus

Katy Ho is the Director of Innovation Practice for Future Networks and Future Focus, responsible for the innovation strategy and delivery for 5G, IoT, Cyber and Quantum technology streams. Katy looks after a portfolio of innovation and acceleration projects including large public sector funded programmes, commercial innovation sprints, as well as startup acceleration. Previously Katy was Senior International Programme Lead at a policy consultancy designing and developing capacity building programmes for UK and international government stakeholders.
