G REIGNS advances multi-vendor integration for Open RAN deployment

Posted 24 Mar 2026

SONIC Labs enables 5G solution refinement

In the maturing 5G landscape, operators no longer need to commit to a single vendor — yet multivendor integration can still be a major challenge when deploying Open RAN technologies at scale.

The G REIGNS team joined SONIC Labs to obtain access to expertise and facilities that would help them solve multi-vendor integration issues. They also wanted to refine and test their private 5G solution in a platform that could integrate various advanced technologies, including AI and MIMO.

Co-delivered by Digital Catapult and Ofcom, SONIC Labs (SmartRAN Open Network Interoperability Centre) is a world-leading innovation programme and R&D facility based in central London. It fosters the emergence of new solutions in the telecom supply chain in the UK, focusing on multi-vendor open, disaggregated and software-centric network products and services.

Digital Catapult’s connections with the Open RAN community would also provide G REIGNS with valuable exposure, helping them to become more visible to the UK and European market.

Lab testing for success in the field

The G REIGNS team wanted to understand the challenges they could be facing in terms of integration with, for example, massive MIMO radio. Working with Digital Catapult and SONIC Labs has helped them make significant advances in multi-vendor systems integration, enabling them to accelerate their roadmap and make solutions available to customers faster.

Digital Catapult and SONIC Labs teams are technically proficient, and their facilities are exceptionally well-equipped and a pleasure to work in. Daniel Ping VP of Engineering, G REIGNS

Working in a lab environment means there’s no impact on commercial traffic, and their engineers had all the tools necessary to identify and resolve issues in deploying Open RAN technologies. With knowledge and experience gained from their time with SONIC Labs, they have been able to fine-tune the parameters in their software stack to make sure that the field deployment goes smoothly. The practical experience also enabled the engineering team to understand the nuances across the varying requirements of different radio vendors.

Now they can comfortably say they have successfully integrated with a wide range of vendor technologies — and as well as providing the CU/DU stack, G REIGNS can provide the expertise needed to complete field integration for smooth deployment.

Achieving interoperability for increased commercial value

SONIC Labs has helped G REIGNS to iron out interoperability across radios, CU/DU stacks, and massive MIMO. This has motivated the engineering team and enabled them to increase their solution capabilities, making sure it is well-positioned as a commercial offering that’s ready for customer adoption.

Having the ability to test thoroughly has enabled them to confirm commercial viability and availability for deployment, and they are now shortening test cycles, shortening integration cycles, and making sure the time to revenue for customers is shorter.

Having the chance to be a part of initiatives such as SONIC Labs and Digital Catapult programmes gives us the freedom and flexibility to test our limits, make sure that we are compliant from a CU/DU software standpoint, and are proficient at working with other vendors Manish Idnani Head of Business Development, G REIGNS

Increasing market access

The G REIGNS team has been able to validate their solutions in terms of end-to-end open integration. This gives them additional confidence in going to market and working with different vendors, and reinforces their solution’s commercial viability.

Beyond the technical validation, one of the most valuable aspects of taking part in the programme has been the potential for matchmaking within the Open RAN ecosystem. Through SONIC Labs, the G REIGNS team has been able to leverage Digital Catapult’s network to connect with potential customers and demonstrate their validated energy-efficient solution to a much wider Open RAN market.

Digital Catapult has helped us bridge the trust gap and introduced us to the UK enterprises looking for private 5G solutions. James Chang PMP Senior Manager, Business Development & Operations, G REIGNS
We wanted to put ourselves out there in Europe, and SONIC Labs – and Digital Catapult programmes – provides a great platform for us to start exposing our solutions to more customers. Manish Idnani Head of Business Development, G REIGNS
