Meet us at: MobiCom 2020 – Benchmarking IoT Social Distancing Solutions

Date: 25 September 2020 14:00 - 25 September 2020 16:30

On 25 September Digital Catapult will be taking part in CPS-IoTBench at MobiCom 2020, the international forum addressing networks, systems, algorithms, and applications that support mobile computers and wireless networks.

This online session produced by IoTBench and Digital Catapult is part of the full day event programme taking place online from 14:00 to 19:30, Digital Catapult will present its IoT Benchmarking session from 14:00-16:30 covering the benchmarking of social distancing solutions, and is particularly pertinent in response to Covid-19.

Digital Catapult at MobiCom 2020

Digital Catapult, in collaboration with IoTBench and Imperial College London, is looking to evaluate how effectively an IoT solution can manage safe social distancing and detect proximity violations in indoor environments by distance measurement and monitoring. Finding the right IoT technology solution for business challenges still remains a major issue for many businesses, and it is through this and IoT benchmarking solutions that Digital Catapult hopes to play a pivotal role.

The IoT hype during the past decade has attracted a large number of different businesses to bring competing solutions to the market. While competition is great for the buyer when a market is mature, it poses significant difficulties to early adopters due to the diversity of proprietary and standards-based solutions further amplified by very different levels of quality in the market.

The wide choice and supplier noise can often confuse early adopters and a wrong decision at the start of the IoT journey can quickly put them off further exploring IoT technologies in the future. This in turn can slow down the adoption of IoT technologies, even if suitable ones are available. This is why benchmarking is so important.

Innovative companies in the IoT space have been invited to take part in an exciting social distancing technology experiment taking place at the beginning of September at the Digital Catapult office in London. The results will be presented during the benchmarking event on 25 September at MobiCom 2020 during the session at 14:00-16:30.

Who should get involved?

This topic is of particular interest to a wide audience as we set to build resilient Covid-19 and social distancing solutions. The session’s focus is relevant for those looking to understand and adopt such solutions into their business and services, and is relevant to any business required to support social distancing.

Why attend?

Attendees of the Digital Catapult IoT Benchmarking Social Distancing Solutions session will gain a better understanding of the opportunities IoT offers for these challenges. We’ll cover the learnings and outputs of the benchmarking exercise and pitch leading and existing solutions available in the marketplace. Finally, we’ll present our findings and performance results from the IoT benchmarking activities supported by technology and academic expertise.

Session agenda:

14:00 – 14:10: Opening remarks, Alex Gluhak, Head of IoT, Digital Catapult
14:10 – 14:40: IoT benchmarking social distancing solutions – the why, how and what with official presentation of results and evaluations scenarios and metrics.
14:40 – 15:40: Social distancing solution presentations with audience Q&A
15:40 – 16:10: Panel discussion – communication technologies for building social distancing solutions
