About this event

Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities are advancing at an unprecedented speed. In an AI enabled world, it matters who influences and builds the models, data and AI infrastructure that businesses will depend on. Within the thriving AI sector in the UK, there is a unique opportunity not only to lead in the deployment of AI technologies but also to drive the development of the next generation of cutting‑edge AI.

Delivered by Digital Catapult in partnership with Innovate UK, this webinar will explore emerging opportunities at the frontier of AI development, including pathways for funding programmes. Designed to foster collaboration, this session will help participants share ambitions, build relationships, and begin shaping ideas that could evolve into competitive consortia funding bids.

With a great lineup of speakers such as Professor Jacqui Cole, Lead in AI at the Henry Royce Institute Challenge, Scott Hale, Director at Oxford Internet Institute, Alistair Stuart, Head of Life Science at Faculty.ai, and Guy Gadney, CEO of Charisma.ai amongst others, this event will delve into the opportunities and challenges of for developing advanced and novel, frontier AI, and how its capabilities can be harnessed to boost productivity, competitiveness, and economic growth in the UK.

Following the webinar, selected attendees who are already exploring the next generation of cutting-edge, frontier AI technologies, will be invited to join a series of workshops and focus groups helping to inform and shape future UK funding opportunities to support the development of models, data and AI infrastructure.

To bring this to life, these workshops will focus on areas of strategic importance where there are strong opportunities to build new AI capabilities, and will be delivered in partnership with fellow Catapults, industry experts, research organisations, and academics. The themes are:

  • Fundamental AI Research
  • AI for Materials
  • AI for Biosciences & Health
  • AI for Defence & National Security
  • AI-aided Design for Semiconductors

Who should attend

This webinar is looking for organisations who could develop and scale their own AI tools and datasets, rather than those adopting open AI tools (for example, ChatGPT).

This event will be of interest to:

  • UK companies of all sizes already researching or developing state-of-the-art frontier AI models and solutions
  • UK companies of all sizes that see the potential of novel AI to accelerate their business strategies, for example by leveraging existing data
  • Academic and research organisations interested in building connections leading to consortia R&D bids

Why attend

Frontier AI refers to the leading edge of AI development whose rapidly advancing capabilities are expected to have profound implications for productivity, competitiveness, and economic growth in the UK. This event will provide a unique opportunity to learn more about:

  • the current developments in frontier AI
  • where the cutting edge of AI is likely to be in the next three to five years
  • challenges related to the adoption and scaling of future AI technologies and approaches
  • what will keep the UK at the frontier of AI development
  • future UK funding opportunities for frontier AI for next year
