BEYOND 2023 is heading to the prestigious Royal Institution in London this year and bringing as ever a compelling, thought-provoking programme to an audience of world-leading researchers, makers, investors, business leaders, and thinkers.
For its 6th year, BEYOND will take place in London, with another carefully curated programme of R&D creative innovation, expert speakers, ground-breaking projects and lots more, including programming from BEYOND partners.
This year’s conference theme shines a spotlight on the huge role UK creatives are playing in building some extraordinary ground-breaking projects as part of international teams. Showcasing this phenomenal work, BEYOND 2023 will ask if these projects are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the potential of building new global partnerships for the creative industries.

Jessica Driscoll, Director of Immersive at Digital Catapult is hosting a panel discussion around “Advancing Media Production: Exploring the boundaries of technology-enabled live performance” on 22nd of November 2023 at 13:15 alongside panellists Dan Munslow, Executive Producer at Target3D, Ruth Gibson and Bruno Martelli, Virtual Realists at Gibson/Martelli, and Alexander Whitley, Founder and Choreographer at the Alexander Whitley Dance Company.
Fresh off the launch of the Advanced Media Production studios, the panel will deep dive into the fascinating intersection of technology and live performance. In particular, the panellists will:
- Discuss how the technologies made available through the network will be transformative to artists and performers
- Share learnings from the UK’s first permanently 5G connected studios
- Explore what production looks like when the technologists get involved.

Jessica Driscoll
Director of Immersive Technology
An immersive technology specialist Jessica Driscoll is Director of Immersive Technology at Digital Catapult. She has an MA in Digital Culture and Technology and experience of working with a variety of technologies from virtual reality, augmented reality and haptics in the creative and industrial sectors.
Dan Munslow
Executive Producer at Target3D
Executive Producer. Specialties: Virtual Production, ICVFX, Motion Capture, Performance capture, Interactive digital art installation management, Motion graphic installations, International project management, 360 3D Video, VR, AR, XR.
Ruth Gibson
Virtual Realist at Gibson/Martelli
Graduates of RMIT with a joint PhD in immersivity and somatic sensing. Worldwide commissions include residencies in North America, China, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand and exhibitions at the Barbican, Centro de Arte Moderna, Lisbon and Detroit Institute of Arts, Venice Beinnale. Nominated for a British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA) the duo are recipients of several awards: a Henry Moore Foundation New Commission, a National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts (NESTA) Award, in 2015 winning the Lumen Gold Prize. The artists recently completed an AI and machine learning project with collaborators at Goldsmiths University of London and Creative Computing Institute UAL. Gibson is Associate Professor at Centre for Dance Research, Coventry University. The artists live and work in London.
Bruno Martelli

Alexander Whitley
Founder and Artistic Director at Alexander Whitley Dance Company
Established in 2014, Alexander Whitley Dance Company exists as a platform for enquiry and innovation, bringing together world-class artists, academic research and technological ingenuity in the creation of ground-breaking dance productions. Building on a distinguished performing career, AWDC was founded in response to the new creative possibilities emerging from developments in digital technology and the interdisciplinary practices forming around it. Through its innovative stage productions, installations and virtual reality experiences, the company has rapidly established a reputation for its ambitious and intellectually engaged work and has drawn together a network of exceptional collaborators. Using digital technology to deepen appreciation of, and widen access to, dance is a driving force behind the company’s work and through our Digital Learning Programme we seek to enable and inspire communities and young people around the UK.
