Bruce is one of the founders of the open source movement in software and was the person to announce “open source” to the world. From Pixar to HP and the UN, Bruce has worked at the intersections of open source, engineering, software, design, and law for more than four decades.
Also featuring is Amanda Brock, CEO at OpenUK, the UK body for Open Technology. Amanda has previously been the Chair of the Open Source and Intellectual Property (IP) Advisory Group of the United Nations Technology Innovation Labs, and was General Counsel of Canonical, one of the world’s biggest open source companies and the commercial sponsor of Ubuntu.
The event includes a panel discussion – Does open sourcing code make for less vulnerable code? – with audience Q&A.
Moderated by Geoff White, panellists are Bruce Perens, Amanda Brock, Andrew Martin – CEO and founder of ControlPlane and Mark Inskip from the Morello Project – Arm.
What’s the current state of play with making code open source to improve security and spot bugs faster – harnessing the power of the masses?
What about collaborative system design to improve system security? Does it work? Should there be a legal imperative for manufacturers to make code publicly available for systems critical to life?
What do you think?
Following the presentations and panel, attendees are welcomed to join the presenters for food, drinks, and further discussion.
