Professor Juergen Maier, Chair of Digital Catapult, is today announcing that the Digital Catapult Board has been bolstered with the appointment of esteemed technology leader and Chief Technology Officer at Digital Catapult, Joe Butler.
Joe Butler has a rich and impressive career history that has seen him closely embedded in technology work with startups and scaleups, as well as some of the UK’s largest technology and infrastructure projects at the heart of government.
Since joining Digital Catapult in 2020, Joe has played a pivotal role in the scaling and wider adoption of advanced digital technologies and their application to industry; overseeing growth and development across Digital Catapult’s focus technology areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning, immersive, 5G and the internet of things, and distributed systems.
Prior to working at Digital Catapult, Joe held roles as Chief Technology Officer for the radio spectrum, and Director of Telecoms and Chief Scientific Advisor at DCMS. He has held senior technology roles at Ofcom, including Director of AI and Machine Learning, as well as working on delivering multi-billion spectrum auctions for 4G and 5G. Joe was also one of the authors of the National Infrastructure Commission report on 5G.
