Build and test IoT innovations that solve real world problems

Innovation programmes and an open LPWAN network for UK businesses to experiment and prototype new IoT solutions

Things Connected

Things Connected is an initiative that supports UK businesses who are using LPWAN technologies. It offers an open network for the experimenting with and prototyping of new IoT products and services that can benefit from the unique features of LoRaWAN and SigFox.

Our nationwide innovation programmes are for small innovative businesses. They provide access to industry mentors, as well as commercial and academic expertise to help them bring their products to market. They are run in partnership with challenge owners who are typically large organisations with real business problems that require addressing.

The programmes are designed to help startups and scaleups ensure their new products and services are 100% primed and targeting the right needs.

So far over 50 small businesses have graduated through our programmes, a number of which have now sold their solutions or received additional funding to help them grow their businesses further.

The benefits of joining Things Connected?

  • Get your IoT solution to market faster.
  • Test and develop your IoT solutions on our open LoRa and Sigfox network.
  • Access to technical and business expertise.
  • Participate in our regular challenge lead innovation programmes.
  • Become part of a growing community and attend regular workshops and events.

Currently our networks and programmes have been rolled out in the following regions:

Things Connected Bournemouth

In Bournemouth, WND UK, Digital Catapult’s selected network expansion partner, is working with Net Sensorts to develop smart street barriers that will improve the safety and monitoring systems for landslides, which it hopes to export to other vulnerable areas.

Things Connected London

Our original network was created in London and we have already run two programmes on it, covering a wide range of use cases. We are currently developing our latest programme which is focussing on using sensors in the built environment to improve everyday life.

Things Connected North East

Sunderland Software City will employ the network to develop smart water metering, streamline supply chain logistics and improve rail infrastructure.

Things Connected Northern Ireland

Ulster University will drive efficiencies in healthcare service provision and manufacturing distribution. It will also use connected sensors to better understand tourism patterns.
