Enabling Trust in Data Exchange for Materials 4.0

The materials and manufacturing sector forms 15% of UK GDP and has a key role to play in achieving national technological and societal goals. This report, commissioned by the Henry Royce Institute for advanced materials, explores how the advanced materials community can utilise distributed ledger technology to accelerate the discovery, innovation and validation of new materials.
By providing expert opinion on the existing and emerging technologies in Materials 4.0, it aims to demonstrate how distributed systems can help stakeholders to collaborate in a decentralised fashion while maintaining trust through mutually agreed rules and policies.
As well as outlining the different applications of distributed systems in the materials industry, the report provides insight into how this technology can be used to overcome some of the slow and complex systems currently required to share sensitive data.
