Strengthening competitiveness in cyber physical systems and IoT

Digital Catapult is the UK hub for FED4SAE, part of a network of innovation hubs across Europe that boost and sustain the digitisation of the European industry. The programme focuses on strengthening competitiveness in cyber physical systems (CPS) and internet of things (IoT), those that integrate physical and computer based processes, and embedded system markets

FED4SAE facilitates the development of new CPS-IoT solutions in five main application domains: smart health, smart city, smart manufacturing, smart mobility and smart transportation. The programme is funded by the EU as part of its Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. It supports startups, scaleups and mid-cap companies to:

  • Build new products and services enabled by CPS
  • Establish innovator-supplier cross-border partnerships

Working with a consortium including Thales, Intel, STMicroelectronics, AVL and leading European research institutions, the initiative already run a series of three open calls to find the most innovative and commercial solution ideas.

32 startups, scaleups and mid-caps are already participating in FED4SAE, each receiving:

  • Up to €60k in financial support to help fund application experiments
  • Access to leading edge CPS-IoT platforms, building blocks and associated technical expertise
  • Business case support

FED4SAE helps:

  • Deliver innovative CPS-IoT ideas to companies from every sector by leveraging the resources, know-how and cutting-edge technologies of some of Europe’s top research institutes and leading industrial companies
  • Support companies with business modelling, market insights, competitive watch and access to funding along the way
  • Link businesses to users and suppliers across value chains throughout Europe

Digital Catapult is supporting successful applicants in three key ways:

  • Offering technology support and access to our low power wide area network testbed
  • Providing product development coaching
  • Supporting participants to establish pan-European relationships with suppliers and customers.
  • Helping participants access further funding via our investor network
