Digital Catapult LPWAN Testbed

Driving the adoption of LPWAN technologies across the UK

An open LPWAN testbed for UK businesses to experiment and build prototypes.

LPWAN wireless networks such as LoRaWAN and SigFox are designed to allow connected devices such as sensors to communicate small amounts of data over large distances using low power. These remote sensors can run for many years on a single battery, located many miles from network gateway.

Join our LPWAN Meetups

In partnership with the TTN, the network forms the UKs largest LPWAN network. UK innovators will now be able to develop and build Internet of Things (IoT) solutions on a network of over 600 base stations across the country. To access the network and connect your devices please visit the console here.

Alongside the network our nationwide LPWAN innovation programmes help businesses of all sizes to work collaboratively with solution providers to solve real life business challenges. The programme drives the adoption of LPWAN technologies by accelerating the development and roll-out of IoT solutions and helping to bring them to market.

Our programmes are co-designed with industry players who are typically large organisations. We identify core challenges and bring together mentors, expertise and innovative startups.

The benefits of working with us:

  • Get your IoT solution to market faster
  • Access to technical and business expertise
  • Participate in our regular challenge lead innovation programmes
  • Become part of a growing community and attend regular workshops and events

Currently our programmes are rolled out in the following regions:

In Bournemouth, Digital Catapult is working with Net Sensors to develop smart street barriers that will improve the safety and monitoring systems for landslides, which it hopes to export to other vulnerable areas.

Northern Ireland
Ulster University with Digital Catapult will drive efficiencies in healthcare service provision and manufacturing distribution. It will also use connected sensors to better understand tourism patterns.
