Immersive Belfast: Tourism Challenge

The Immersive Belfast Tourism Challenge will enhance visitor experiences through the innovative use of immersive technology.

Belfast City Council, in partnership with Digital Catapult, is seeking to engage immersive SME’s to create exceptional immersive experiences that will help draw visitors to the city of Belfast.

The Challenge

Immersive technologies are changing the way that we interact with our environment.

We want to help turn Belfast into the next generation destination to visit by harnessing immersive platforms and content in the city to create an unforgettable experience for visitors.

We would like to test new immersive formats which could be consumed across the city at multiple locations. To start this process we are asking immersive content creators to focus on a single attraction, location, or area of Belfast which they believe would be an ideal destination to showcase their ability and the best of the city.

Why you should get involved?

Belfast City Council is providing a grant of up to £25,000 to the winning application to help create a working prototype.

The challenge will also aim to subsequently take the prototype into production, subject to funding.

Who should apply?

The Immersive Belfast is seeking applications from multi-skilled teams in the development of prototypes across Northern Ireland, the rest of the UK and Europe.

For this programme, they are looking for:

  • Artistic pieces that are relevant to Belfast’s top sites, attractions, history and culture.
  • Cultural experiences (including those inspired by museum, gallery, library or heritage experiences).
  • New forms of storytelling that are relevant to Belfast city’s history, culture and heritage (fiction or non-fiction).

The deadline for submissions is Friday 15 December 2017. The successful entry will be informed before Christmas, with work commencing on the prototype in January 2018.
