From PhD to Industry: PhD technology student and startup workshop

Designed to foster innovation and collaboration between the research and innovation communities, this unique event will consist of short presentations from PhD students and startups, alongside tailored networking break-out sessions.

Why should people attend the event?

For Digital Catapult startups:

The event will provide access to a number of PhD students and their expertise. Each startup will be able to discuss and inform decision making and validation of products, directly from the research landscape. The workshop aims to spark discussions on unified topics and research, and enable new relationships to be formed. From these sessions it is hoped to create placements for PHD students within business, to further research and applications to industry.

For PhD students:

PhD students participating will be provided with access to real-world challenges and scenarios from leading advanced digital technology startups. It is hoped this will lead to placements being secured that will offer industry experience and with the opportunity to apply research directly to industry and have a tangible impact within the company.

Who is suitable for the event?

  • PhD students looking for a placement within an advanced digital technology startup
  • Startups eligible to join must have participated in one of Digital Catapult’s acceleration programmes – including, but not limited to, Machine Intelligence Garage, Augmentor and Cyber 101
  • Startups and PhD students working across the areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning and related disciplines – cyber security, data science, the internet of things and immersive technologies
