The SmartRAN Open Networks Interoperability Centre (SONIC Labs) is a new long-term joint programme of work between Digital Catapult and Ofcom, with the goal to help foster a diverse telecom supply chain in and for the UK. This will be driven through building and operating a large scale interoperability and integration testing facility for companies developing mobile networks technology in pre-commercial product stage. We are looking for a Senior Technology Relationship Manager who will be responsible for relationship management of the technology stakeholders and strategic partners across the public and private sectors for SONIC Labs, including building and developing the ecosystem of telecoms and Open RAN vendors. This role will develop and run the whole Strategic Partnership and Ecosystem Engagement Workstream for this programme. In addition to providing support to the wider SONIC Labs programme team the Senior Technology Relationship Manager will provide matrix leadership to the engagement, partnership and research managers across Digital Catapult. The Senior Technology Relationship Manager will also support the development of business opportunities that arise from the programme. Closing date for applications: 4th October 2021. what you’ll do
  • Setting up and leading the Strategic Partnership and Ecosystem Engagement workstream of SONIC Labs, under the leadership of the Director Policy, Research & Strategic Engagement: 1) Establish and service the process, collaboration frameworks and agreements, and governance model for strategic partnerships with technology organisations 2) Establish and undertake the secretariat role for the SONIC Advisory Board(s)
  • Relationship management of stakeholders and strategic partners across the public and private sectors, UK and globally, including operators and multilateral organisations, building engagement with the programme and coordinating and aligning within Digital Catapult and Ofcom
  • Build and develop the open RAN and open network vendors, integrators and other suppliers for SONIC Labs, creating a framework to identify and select products and vendors to build the pipeline of open ran products aligned with our areas of focus. Carry out lead management, tracking and analysing pipelines and developing future opportunities, negotiating collaboration agreements and other agreements
  • Establish and build visibility of Digital Catapults’s activities through SONIC Labs to the UK and global telecoms ecosystem, including information dissemination, events and other outreach activities
  • Support open network ecosystem research, dissemination and knowledge transfer, working with the SONIC Labs leads within the Policy, Research Economics & Engagement, Innovation Practice and Technology teams
  • Provide coaching and guidance for successful delivery across the workstream in line with Digital Catapult’s strategy and vision, and the strategic objectives of the Programme.
what we’re looking for
  • Experience in building and maintaining successful partnerships with vendors, technology adopters and multilateral organisations such as standards bodies or industry fora in the network technology space
  • A skilled and persuasive communicator, in person, online, written and presentations, with creativity, insight and vision
  • Experience in managing complex senior stakeholders in both the private and the public sector. Experience in working with DCMS and Ofcom stakeholders would be beneficial
  • Understanding of the UK telecoms business, and UK and global players
  • Ability to pick up subject matter expertise in a given technology area and sufficient knowledge of telecoms and network technology to build credibility with practitioners
  • Knowledge of 5G and open network technology would be beneficial
  • Ability to provide leadership in cross-functional projects in a matrix structure, across multiple internal and external organisations
