Based in London, the Mobile Networks R&D Engineer will focus on the practical development of technology enablers contributing to the 5G Factory of the Future (5G-FoF) project where Digital Catapult is responsible for the design and implementation of an orchestration platform and an Industrial Cellular IoT solution. This role will be working on a fixed term contract until March 2022 (with the potential for further extension). Closing date for Applications 27th June 2021. Anticipated Start date: ASAP

what you’ll do
  • The post holder will need to carry out the following technical tasks - Understand the requirements of the project use cases
  • Understand the philosophy of the service orchestration architecture and implement or modify the functional components of the project
  • To integrate the developed modules of the Catapults existing orchestration platform
  • Implement and measure performance’s KPIs and evaluate the functionality performance
  • Prepare and carry out oral presentations in technical and progress meetings
  • Write technical reports.
what we’re looking for
  • Ideally educated to Masters Degree level in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or with equivalent level of experience. A PHD would be advantageous
  • Understanding of 5G network architecture and protocols at a good level
  • Understanding with hands-on experience on Network virtualization concepts on a professional level in Openstack and/or Kubernetes
  • Network programming with either Python, YML, Perl, Bash, etc at an expert level
  • Network protocols analyzing skills with hands-on experience on Network tools
  • Analytic approach on Network optimization with hands-on experience on optimization models and tools
  • Prototyping for PoC demonstrations
  • Software development skills on UNIX-based systems (Linux, FreeBSD etc.)
  • Practical experience with commercial network equipment
  • Deployment and configuration of network elements such as Access points, base stations, switches, EPC would be a bonus
