As an IoT Architect, your job is to inspire the creation of cutting edge IoT solutions and their implementation as part of ambitious digital transformation projects of early adopters that we are working with. You will be challenged with innovating and architecting IoT solutions from scratch, and lead the charge into the IoT world. You will lead on the engagement of relevant stakeholders to ensure that requirements are properly understood and translated into suitable architecture and design specifications. You will ensure that suitable proof of concepts and pilot activities that we are engaged in will lead to successful solutions that can be effectively scaled by our clients alongside suitable delivery partners in the form of IoT technology start-ups and scaleups we are working with. You will work closely across all technology disciplines to accelerate development and commercialisation of disruptive and transformative digital solutions. You will enhance and champion our IoT capabilities and credentials to broader external communities. Note that this is a customer facing position but is not suitable for sales focussed solution architects. Closing Date for Applications: 21st June 2021. Anticipated Start Date: July 2021

what you’ll do
  • Set & define the standards for industrial and enterprise IoT (Internet of Things) Architecture in the company that lead to longer lasting digital transformation within our clients
  • Educate potential adopters about the potential of IoT technologies and support the identification of convincing business cases for further scaling of these solutions
  • Work closely with the Commercial and Innovation teams to examine the entire business pipeline, uncover opportunities for IoT projects, and create them
  • Elicit detailed technical requirements from client challenges and opportunities for proof-of-concepts, pilots and scaleup activities
  • Pro-actively qualify in delivery partners from emerging IoT startups and scaleups in the UK IoT eco-system
  • Act as a technical project lead working with internal teams, partners and funders while not shying away from hands-on delivery in these projects
  • Continue to develop and learn new technologies, investigate and propose new project directions and initiatives and demonstrate thought leadership
  • Work within a team to help craft new funding bids or commercial pitches for the IoT technology area
  • Define frameworks, standards and best practices for IoT that apply generally, as well as defining technical architectures for specific projects
  • Take ownership for the architecture and delivery of the Advanced Technology Platform based on modular and reusable components, open technologies and best practices
  • Be the trusted advisor to the Head of Technology for IoT and the CTO to shape strategies that address industry challenges and advance IoT adoption
  • Build IoT capabilities through strategic partner network and IoT ecosystem
  • Partner with the Director of Engineering to introduce and enforce sound development practices and ensure quality delivery
  • Mentor technical staff
  • Contribute toward excellence in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment
what we’re looking for
  • MSc or PhD degree in Computer Science or Electronics Engineering, or related fields or qualified by experience
  • Strong experience in architecting and building end to end industrial and enterprise IoT products and solutions based on identified client and market requirements. Need to demonstrate sole architecture, design and deployment of at least one end to end I4.0 or Industrial/ Enterprise IOT project
  • Deep knowledge and expertise of emerging IoT technologies including IoT device (hardware and firmware to kernel level), communications (networking, wireless technologies and industrial IOT protocols), and security and compliance, data engineering and service delivery platforms. Experience of integrating IOT to AI/ML, Immersive, DLT and automation technologies is desirable
  • Software development, patterns and practices experience is essential (C, C++, Python, JS, Java, Cloud back end or other modern languages). Presence in open source community is desirable
  • Strong demonstrable experience of prototyping acrosss the full IoT stack including electronics hardware components, and understanding of electronics and schematics
  • Deep knowledge and experience of at least one leading IoT Platform (AWS, Azure, GCP, Thingworx, Cumulocity)
  • Extensive experience in managing diverse internal and external stakeholders as part of the delivery of complex technology projects, preferably in the area of IoT
  • Passion for working in new or groundbreaking IoT technology areas, solving real world challenges with technology and experience developing complex product lines, ecosystems, or solutions that are the first to market
  • Demonstrated ability to win commercial tenders and C&RD bids for IoT solutions. Public sector knowledge/experience is desirable
  • Highly experienced in building strategic partnerships, managing 3rd parties and negotiating contracts
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the IoT ecosystem and key ecosystem players
  • Strong leadership, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills. Must have as strong public presence with the talent to present.
