Digital Catapult is looking for a Technologist to work on a wide variety of projects using Distributed Ledger/blockchain. Projects are usually part of R&D / grant-funded projects with UK or EU partners, but are occasionally commercially-funded. The role is quite varied as it will be split approximately 60%/40% between software prototyping and supporting report writing or grant applications. There will also be the potential to represent the Catapult at client-facing events. The role is within the 40-person multidisciplinary technology team that works closely with engineering, policy, market research, designers and product managers across the organisation. It would suit an individual who already has a working knowledge of software development and is ready to up-skill in a creative, flexible, smart and collaborative environment. The right candidate will be a natural communicator with excellent written skills and a willingness to help the entire DLT space have a major positive socioeconomic impact on the UK.

what you’ll do
  • Approximately 60% of time dedicated to hands-on software development for Digital Catapult’s DLT/blockchain projects, working alongside others on scoping and architecture, followed by individual work to develop proofs-of-concept through to functional prototypes
  • Approximately 40% of time spent on written work or presentations including grant applications, documentation, reporting, internal and external presentations and meetings
what we’re looking for
  • Commercial or team experience with software development practices. Experience of coding in one or more languages including JavaScript, Golang, Rust, C/C++ and deploying to modern cloud and DevOps environments
  • Good knowledge of the DLT/blockchain space including history, ecosystem developments, political and socioeconomic issues, major players
  • Excellent knowledge of DLT/blockchain architectures, processes, including consensus mechanisms
  • Willingness to upskill in a variety of software development techniques alongside our experienced engineering team
  • Understands open source development and may even contribute to one or more repos
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Proactive and self- confident, adaptable and able to cope with ambiguity, changing and evolving priorities whilst being able to identify new opportunities
