Senior Industrial IoT Technologist

Based in London, this role offers an exciting mix of activities focused on pushing the boundaries of Industrial IoT, cloud and edge technologies as part of R&D projects at Digital Catapult. The activities include applied research, implementation of proof-of-concepts and experimentation through pilots and real-life trials. You will work in partnership with cutting edge start-ups and scale-ups and early technology adopters to validate technology feasibility and underlying business cases to enable a rapid scaling of advanced digital technology solutions. The projects will vary over time and will focus on establishing proof-points for disruptive new concepts that change the game for parts of the IoT value chain and enable early adopter organisation that we work with to realise significant market advantages and new value. You will enhance and champion our IoT capabilities and credentials to broader external communities. Closing date for applications: 4th October 2021.Target start date: ASAP.

what you’ll do
  • Own the development and implementation of innovative IoT cloud and edge technologies in one or more R&D projects at Digital Catapult
  • Work collaboratively with technologists, engineers, designers, project and product managers to design, develop and deploy end-to-end Industrial IoT solutions to enable real world pilots at customer sites
  • Share expertise & communicate work in presentations, blogs, technical reports or articles and evangelise our mission and outcomes with others
  • Educate potential adopters about the potential of IoT technologies and support the identification of convincing business cases for further scaling of these solutions
  • Work closely with the Commercial and Innovation teams to examine the entire business pipeline, uncover opportunities for IoT projects, and create them
  • Elicit detailed technical requirements from client challenges and opportunities for proof-of-concepts, pilots and scaleup activities
  • Pro-actively qualify delivery partners from emerging IoT startups and scaleups in the UK IoT eco-system
  • Work within a team to help craft new funding bids or commercial pitches for the IoT technology area
  • Define frameworks, standards and best practices for industrial IoT that apply generally, as well as defining technical architectures for specific projects
  • Build IIoT and I4.0 Platform capabilities through strategic partner network and IoT ecosystem
  • Contribute toward excellence in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment
what we’re looking for
  • MSc or PhD degree in Computer Science or Electronics Engineering, or related fields
  • Experience of developing, integrating and deploying workflow solutions on ISA 95 stack (PLC, SCADA, MES, ERP, Automation) in industrial and manufacturing settings
  • 5+ years experience of I4.0 and Industrial IoT architectures and technologies including IoT devices (hardware and firmware development), industrial communications and networking, industrial IoT protocols (OPC, MQTT, CoAP/LWM2M, REST/HTTP), and security and compliance. Some experience of digital twins and digital supply chain is an advantage
  • IoT Software development, patterns and practices experience is essential (C/C++, Python, BASH, JS, Angular, Node Red, REST, SQL, Linux). Experience of GIT, CI/CD, Jira is desirable
  • Experience of building PoCs and solutions with wireless IoT connectivity including cellular IoT (Any-G, NB-IOT, LTE-M)
  • Deep knowledge and experience of at least one leading Industrial IoT Platforms (AWS, Azure, Thingworx, Cumulocity, Kepware, Devicewise etc). Some experience of industrial automation and optimisation using analytics is an advantage
  • Experience of managing diverse internal and external stakeholders as part of the delivery of complex technology projects, preferably in the area of IoT
  • Passion for working in new or groundbreaking IoT technology areas, solving real world challenges with technology and experience developing complex product lines, ecosystems, or solutions that are the first to market
  • Demonstrated ability to win commercial tenders and Collaborative R&D bids for IoT solutions
  • Experience of public sector and building strategic partnerships/ managing 3rd parties is desirable
  • Ability to self organise, manage and work independently on multiple projects at the same time
  • Strong oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills with the talent to present
