Service Designer - 12 month FTC

We’re currently looking for an experienced mid weight / senior service designer to join the design team at Digital Catapult. Designers at Digital Catapult work on complex and ambiguous projects to help others unlock the value of emerging technology. You are passionate about how new technologies can impact experiences and how that in turn creates meaningful opportunities for businesses large and small. You’re curious about what makes people and organisations tick, and with a wide range of tools under your belt to unearth the necessary insight you are able to communicate these effectively to others. This is a great opportunity to work together with specialists, government, academics and industry at the cutting edge of emerging technologies – artificial intelligence, 5G, IoT, blockchain, mixed reality and haptics – and help speed up their adoption in the UK’s creative and manufacturing sectors. what you’ll do
  • You’ll work on end-to-end projects from planning and discovery through to concepting and delivery to ensure we’re approaching challenges methodically, holistically and in a human centred way
  • You’ll research, collaborate and co-design with our clients and internal teams, applying the design process to de-risk the delivery of products, services and programmes by combining business needs and processes with user insights
  • You will work with designers, technologists and our innovation team to define value propositions and develop meaningful, measurable and actionable plans of action that we and our partners can realistically deliver against
  • You will also support the rest of the team in product, experiential and visual design activities
what we’re looking for
  • You love sinking your teeth into complex challenges, comfortable translating these into simple-to-grasp concepts and able to present to senior stakeholders in an engaging way
  • You’re persuasive in a good way. You are a confident and skilled service designer that makes others want to go with you on the journey
  • You can speak to everyone in their language. You’re a great pragmatic thinker, visual communicator and excellent strategic design consultant for the project team you work with
  • You can switch your perspective easily and you enjoy bringing different disciplines together
  • You’re able to rapidly visualise concepts that our designers, innovation managers and technologists can build on
  • You are a hands-on experienced researcher who is as happy to facilitate a design workshop or training session as you are picking up a sharpie or Adobe CS to put together journey maps and service blueprints
  • You have proven experience working as a service designer (or similar) at a mid-weight level in industry or at a consultancy
  • You have a varied portfolio of work that you’re proud of and that demonstrates how you apply design methods, your process, research rigour, your role(s) and how ambiguous challenges can lead to impactful outcomes
