Digital Catapult is looking for a Financial Controller, to manage all aspects of financial systems, processes, accounting, reporting, team management and policies/ procedures and also play an integral role in the scaling of the organisation and the requisite operational efficiencies. The role should deliver an efficient finance service to the Catapult, to include procure to pay, invoicing, project accounting, forecasting, cashflow and funding management and reporting.

what you’ll do
  • Lead and mentor accounting team of three professionals including (Financial accountant, Junior Accountant, P2P Accounts assistant and related functions)
  • Oversee the accounting operations especially control systems, transactions, and policies and procedures
  • Drive the monthly close cycle
  • Prepare and present results for leadership, board and other stakeholders timely and as needed
  • Work with the Head of Business Finance to provide timely and relevant Management information and commentary to all levels of the business including monthly management reporting, Board & Audit committee reporting, Cost centre managers and Project accounting
  • Lead the preparation statutory accounts and the deliverables of the annual audit
  • Assist the CFO directly with preparing reports for the Audit Committee
  • Implement scaling improvements to processes ( eg project tracking process and accuracy, budget management with cost centre managers and streamlining the reporting) to continue to ensure the team can operate and deliver high quality financial results in an effective and efficient way
  • Monitor compliance with a funding agreement
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Responsible for R&D tax credits scheme
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders – Banks, HMRC
what we’re looking for
  • Qualified accountant (preferably ACA) with a genuinely hands on approach
  • Strong Financial Controllership experience
  • Expert knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, G/L, audits and financial statements
  • Experience with optimising the month-end/year end close processes
  • Experience/familiarity of project accounting and Grant accounting regulations
  • Strong systems / IT skills including advanced Excel
  • SAP Business One experience is a strong advantage but not a requirement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience mentoring and leading finance team members
  • Highest level of integrity and good judgment
  • Comfortable working under pressure with a service-oriented and positive attitude
