Digital Catapult is looking for an experienced PR Manager; someone who has a strong sense of what makes a good news story, who understands journalists and what they are looking for, and demonstrates an understanding of why good storytelling is key to success. Working closely with the marcomms and events team, the PR Manager must confidently and competently promote Digital Catapult’s work and impact through proactive media relations, developing, managing and promoting interesting, inspiring content aligned to industry.

what you’ll do
  • Manage the press office through proactive and reactive media relations
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with specialist and national media (print, broadcast and online)
  • Develop and implement news monitoring and planning, and advising on areas to comment or take other action
  • Draft press releases, media briefings, Q&As and other content
  • Profiling of Digital Catapult’s management team, including specific CEO profiling activity
  • Proactively find opportunities to position Digital Catapult as a leader including rapid response to news of the day/topical themes in the news
  • Pitch and brief speakers at external industry-leading events
  • Lead execution of media elements of PR and marketing campaigns
  • Act as a point of contact for media enquiries
  • Work closely with the Digital Communications Manager and Marcomms Manager to ensure alignment of messaging across all of Digital Catapult’s communications methods
  • Support PR and media elements of delivery for Digital Catapult programmes (e.g. CreativeXR, Machine Intelligence Garage) and projects
  • Building and maintaining a list of media contacts and press office contacts in partner organisations
  • Creating, writing and editing thought leadership, working alongside the Digital Communications Manager to provide advice on best practice
  • Managing and briefing our key speakers and tech experts to secure the best speaker opportunities, bylines or comment opportunities
  • Monthly analysis and reporting of communications activity
what we’re looking for
  • A self-motivated individual with the ability to see their ideas through to conclusion
  • The ability to work independently and under pressure, as well as collaboratively with a small team
  • Excellent planning, project management and organisational skills
  • A clear understanding of the right priorities and activities to make clear decisions
  • Experience briefing and managing external agencies and suppliers
  • Experience using comms tools e.g. Cision, Vuelio, ResponseSource
  • Understanding of the importance of consistency of brand messaging and tone of voice across different media channels
  • Understanding of industry trends and latest relevant news
  • Decisive, quick thinker
  • An appetite to learn and build knowledge
  • Experience in a similar role in-house, or an agency background with tech industry clients is desirable
  • A PR agency background is especially desirable but not essential
