5G Technology Advisor/Consultant

The UK has embarked on an ambitious program of work on 5G as a key step towards advanced future communications infrastructure that can enable a step-change in the digitalisation of industries. An enabler for this is the funding and coordination of trial and testbed programme by the Government Dept. for Digital Culture Media and Sport. We are looking for an experienced consultant to join our 5G technology team at the Digital Catapult and work as part of the wider 5G project team. You will have strong expertise and experience in cellular radio networks, their generational evolution and changes, coupled with an awareness of 5G implementation challenges and new business model opportunities. Business analysis and/or strategy work engaging with industry players at senior technical and commercial level will be highly desirable. This is a very exciting and unique project in the UK, right at the centre of the UK ambition to meaningfully support faster 5G adoption.

what you’ll do
  • Lead on industry engagement using market research and contacts to build and deliver an overview of the opportunities and challenges of 5G adoption and its impact to specific industries
  • Provide direct input and advice to the design of potential intervention mechanisms for delivering pubic funding support
  • Maintain continuous liaison with relevant industry associations and government for the project
  • Proactively disseminate findings of the project in compliance with the overall Digital Catapult communication plan
  • Evangelise Digital Catapult’s mission and key opinions within the 5G area to a wide audience and into technical communities
  • Build networks across the UK’s industry, startup and academic communities.
what we’re looking for
  • Experience in consulting on technical and/or business development, including market analysis skills in the mobile industry or in digital innovation industries
  • Knowledgeable of the fundamentals and current views and advances in wireless network systems, solutions, tools and platforms, coupled with understanding of 5G opportunities and challenges
  • Well-connected and networked in the UK
  • previous experience in similar roles for strategy, product placement, market and opportunity research through evidence-based approaches
  • Track record of collaborative approach and ability to coordinate and easily work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills coupled with excellent analytical and reasoning skills, readily able to multi-task with a creative and flexible attitude
  • University degree in a relevant discipline and extensive and appropriate industry experience.
