Research & Engagement Intern x 2 - 3 months FTC

The role of this internship will be to directly engage with start-ups and scale-ups in the emerging technology space, helping to map the ecosystem and work with the Policy Research Coordinators to prepare internal facing ecosystem research reports that will help to shape internal strategic interventions for the Digital Catapult and external facing thought leadership.

what you’ll do
  • Assist in the delivery of an emerging technology ecosystem report of startups and scaleups, academics / researchers, influencers, organisations, events, investors, government and organisations working in the Internet of Things and Low Powered Wide Area Network space or the Immersive Technology (VR/AR) areas
  • Work with the Policy Research Coordinators to identify where Digital Catapult have had an impact or could have an impact from our work and feeding that into briefings for internal teams and our economics team
  • Attending external events and activities related to the technology focus, undertaking direct interviews via the phone, video conference or in person with startups and scaleups. Working with internal teams to capture and analyse learnings and intelligence from projects
  • Presentation of your findings to internal audiences
  • Building strong relationships for Digital Catapult with the tech ecosystem in our technology areas of focus.
what we’re looking for
  • A University graduate or post-graduate degree or relevant work experience in technology or startup research
  • Excellent written and spoken analytical skills (highly proficient in English), including the ability to translate complex material into clear and concise internal and external documents. Ideally with strong Microsoft Word & PowerPoint design skills
  • Self-motivated and entrepreneurial attitude with the ability to work flexibly and use own initiative when necessary
  • Interest in current emerging technology trends (e.g. 5G, IoT, AI/ML, VR/AR, Blockchain, Cyber Security etc.) with the ability to articulate what these technologies are and their importance to the UK economy
  • A background understanding around why Catapults exist and the role they play in the UK economy
